🇬🇧🇨🇩 UK Announces £51 Million in New Funding to Fight Ebola Outbreak in DRC
KINSHASA/LONDON — September 1, 2026 — The United Kingdom has announced an additional £51 million funding package to support efforts to contain the growing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The latest commitment brings the UK’s total contribution to the current DRC Ebola response to £78 million, according to an announcement from the British government.

£51 Million in Additional Support
The new package includes £40 million from humanitarian crisis, contingency and unallocated funding, alongside £11 million redirected from existing Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office programmes.
The funding is expected to strengthen several critical areas of the Ebola response, including disease surveillance, infection prevention and control, access to treatment and support for frontline health workers.
It will also support community outreach and safe and dignified burials, which are important components of controlling Ebola transmission.
British Health Specialists Supporting the Response
In addition to financial assistance, British public-health specialists have been deployed to support efforts against the outbreak.
Their work includes epidemiology, infection control, risk communication, community engagement and data modelling.
The UK is also supporting the wider response through partnerships with the World Health Organization, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, United Nations agencies and humanitarian organizations working on the front line.
UK Calls for Rapid International Action
UK Minister for Africa Kirsty McNeill said Britain was accelerating its response as the outbreak intensified, emphasizing the importance of rapid international action to save lives and reduce the risk of further transmission.
According to the British government, thousands of vulnerable people are expected to benefit from the additional assistance.
The latest announcement expands earlier British support for the DRC’s government-led Ebola response and adds significant financial backing to technical assistance already being provided by UK health specialists.

The £51 million package represents a major foreign-government funding commitment toward efforts to contain the current outbreak.
For the DRC, the additional resources could strengthen frontline response capacity while helping health authorities and international partners identify cases, provide treatment and prevent further transmission.
