Real Madrid eliminate Man City to reach quarter-finals
Real Madrid vs Man City ended with the Spanish side securing a place in the Champions League quarter-finals after a 2-1 second-leg victory gave them a dominant 5-1 aggregate win.
The match turned in the 20th minute when Bernardo Silva was sent off after a VAR review for handball on the line. Vinicius Junior stepped up and calmly converted the resulting penalty to give Madrid the advantage.
Manchester City responded before half-time through Erling Haaland, who found the net after Jeremy Doku’s cross reached him at the back post. The goal briefly gave City hope as they tried to fight back in front of their home fans.
The game remained open after the break, with both sides creating chances. Haaland continued to threaten, while Doku caused problems with his dribbling and attacking runs. Madrid also came close several times, with Gianluigi Donnarumma making important saves to keep City in the contest.
In stoppage time, Vinicius Junior sealed the victory with his second goal of the night, finishing first time from Aurélien Tchouaméni’s cross to make it 2-1 and confirm Madrid’s progress.
The result once again underlined Real Madrid’s strength in the Champions League, as they knocked Manchester City out of the competition for another time in the knockout stages.
