KAMPALA — September 10, 2026 — Uganda Police in Old Kampala have arrested eight people after a viral social-media video allegedly showed a group of men boasting about attacks on members of the public and making threats against dentists.
The arrests were carried out at Gojo Gym in Namungona, Lubya Parish, Rubaga Division, on Tuesday, September 8.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said police believe four of the eight people detained appear in the circulating video.
The arrests, however, do not establish guilt. Investigations remain ongoing, and the allegations against the suspects would need to be established through the legal process.
What Uganda Police Have Confirmed
Uganda Radio Network reported that officers conducted an intelligence-led operation at Gojo Gym in Namungona, an area of Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Police identified those detained as Matiti Mohammed, also known as Beast-Commander; Nurudin Kasule, also known as 2 I/C; Umar Mubiru; Adams Lukooya; Martin Kiyimba; Yosam Junior Alinda; James Walumu; and Elvis Simanya.
Police said four of the suspects are believed to be among the people appearing in the viral recording.
At the time of the initial reports, authorities had not publicly announced formal charges proving that every person arrested participated in the alleged attacks.
What Does the Viral Video Allegedly Show?
According to police accounts, the video appears to show several men allegedly boasting about attacks that left some victims with damaged jaws and teeth.
The men are also alleged to have demanded a share of money earned by dentists who treated people injured in such attacks and threatened practitioners who refused.
Pulse Uganda’s report on the arrests said approximately six men appear in the recording.
These statements remain allegations.
No court judgment has established that the people detained committed the offences described in the video.
Why Gojo Gym Is Part of the Investigation
Police said preliminary inquiries indicated that some of the suspects may have used Gojo Gym in Namungona as a meeting point while presenting themselves as people involved in boxing training.
Investigators are examining possible connections to alleged robbery, housebreaking, theft, phone snatching, use of weapons and unlawful possession of suspected narcotic substances.
ChimpReports’ account of the police operation reported that police said suspected substances were recovered from some of those detained.
However, initial reports did not include laboratory findings establishing what those substances were.
That distinction is important because an arrest or police allegation should not be treated as proof that a suspect committed a crime.
Viral Social-Media Video Leads to Police Action
The recording circulated publicly on social media before becoming a central part of the police investigation.
Matooke Republic’s report on the viral video and arrests documented how the clip moved from online discussion into wider Ugandan media coverage.
But a social-media video should not automatically be treated as a confession proving specific crimes.
Investigators would still need to determine who appears in the recording, when and where it was made, whether it has been edited and whether statements in the video can be connected to documented criminal incidents and identifiable victims.
Police Continue Looking for Other People
Uganda Police say efforts are continuing to identify other individuals allegedly appearing in the recording and determine their possible roles.
Members of the public who recognize people in the clip or believe they were victims of related attacks have been encouraged to provide information to Old Kampala Police Station or another police facility.
Alleged Threats Against Dentists Under Investigation
The alleged threats against dentists are one of the most unusual aspects of the investigation.
According to the police account, speakers in the video allegedly suggested that dentists were making money by treating people whose jaws or teeth had been injured during attacks.
They allegedly demanded a share of that income.
However, no publicly established pattern of dentists being systematically extorted had been confirmed in the initial reporting.
Dentists, patients or other members of the public with relevant evidence should therefore provide it to law-enforcement authorities rather than confronting people identified online.
Eight Remain Suspects — Not Convicted Offenders
The distinction between being arrested, formally charged and convicted is critical.
The eight people have been detained as suspects while investigators examine the allegations.
A formal charge sheet, court appearance, additional police evidence or further arrests could provide the next major development in the case.
Until a court determines otherwise, the individuals should be described as suspects rather than convicted criminals.
🇺🇬 For now, the established facts are that a disturbing video circulated online, police identified people they believe appear in it, and eight suspects were subsequently arrested during an operation in Namungona. The wider criminal allegations will require evidence capable of being tested in court.
