KONGO CENTRAL – A wave of division has hit one of Kongo Central’s most prominent families. Noël Lutete Mbatshi, son of former provincial governor Simon Floribert Mbatshi Mbatsha, has officially joined the Alliance Fleuve Congo (AFC) of Corneille Nangaa — a political formation allied to the M23 rebel movement.
The move has shocked his father, who remains a staunch supporter of the Union Sacrée under President Félix Tshisekedi. Speaking on TOP CONGO FM, Simon Mbatshi made a heartfelt but stern appeal to his son:
“I ask him to come back, to leave this dead-end adventure and take care of his family.”
Visibly affected, the former governor did not mince his words, describing Noël as “a marginal” with whom he has “deep differences”.

According to Mbatshi, the relationship has been broken for a long time:
“I have no contact with him, and I don’t even want to have any.”
Beyond politics, Mbatshi pointed to a history of personal and financial struggles, claiming:
“He is a man full of debts. I even had to sell a building one day to pay off his debts.”
He also expressed deep concern for Noël’s family, accusing him of abandoning them:
“He left his wife and four young children. Eight years of marriage, and now he is putting it all at risk.”
In a country already marked by heightened political and security tensions, this public family split reflects the divisions that sometimes cut through even the closest of family ties — turning a household disagreement into a symbolic example of Congo’s broader societal fractures.
