Kiswishi City SEZ targets new industrial investment in DRC

Kiswishi City SEZ is emerging as a major industrial project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo through a partnership involving the DRC, the United States, the United Kingdom, and several international investors.

The project is described as the first private special economic zone in the DRC and is designed to attract global investment while accelerating industrial development in Haut-Katanga Province, one of the country’s most important economic regions.

Among the first major investments announced in the zone is a 50 million dollar Pepsi bottling plant being developed by Varun Beverages, one of the largest PepsiCo bottlers in the world. The SEZ will also host an 8,000-cubic-meter fuel depot operated by Congo Petrol to improve fuel logistics and supply in the region.

Kiswishi City SEZ also includes a One-Stop Shop for investors, allowing businesses to access government services and administrative procedures in one location. Authorities say this will help simplify investment processes and improve the business climate.

The project has drawn a diverse group of international shareholders, including investors from the United States, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Norway, showing growing international confidence in the Congolese market.

Officials say the SEZ is expected to create thousands of jobs, strengthen local manufacturing, and position Lubumbashi as a rising industrial hub in Central Africa. The initiative is part of broader government efforts to diversify the economy and promote industrialization beyond the country’s traditional mining sector.
