ITURI – On the night of Sunday, August 10, 2025, the commercial hub of Boga Kinyanzonzo, located in the Bahema Boga chiefdom, Irumu territory, became the scene of a deadly assault by Ugandan Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels. The attack claimed the lives of three civilians and left multiple homes, shops, and vehicles in flames.
According to the Convention for the Respect of Human Rights (CRDH) in Irumu, the incident occurred around 11:00 p.m. when Islamist militants from the ADF-MTM/ISCAP stormed the area.
“The provisional toll is three civilians killed near their homes, and several houses, shops, and vehicles set on fire,”

said Christophe Munyanderu, the CRDH coordinator.
This attack comes after several months of relative calm in the region, largely attributed to coordinated military operations “Sujaa” conducted jointly by the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) and the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
“It’s a shock — we were not expecting such an incident,”
Munyanderu told Voice of Congo.
The assailants were eventually repelled following a swift military response near Malaya, on the road to Tchabi, forcing them to retreat.

This fresh wave of violence highlights the ongoing fragility of security in Ituri and the urgent need for sustained protection measures for civilians in Boga and surrounding areas.
