🔴 Former Tanzanian Speaker Job Ndugai Dies in Dodoma

Dodoma, Tanzania – The Parliament of Tanzania is mourning the loss of its former Speaker, Job Yustino Ndugai, who passed away earlier today in Dodoma. The announcement was made by the current Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Tulia Ackson, who expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the veteran politician and national leader.

“With deep sadness, I announce the passing of our leader, senior politician, and former Speaker of the Parliament, Honorable Job Yustino Ndugai, who passed away today in Dodoma,” said Speaker Tulia Ackson.

📍 A Longstanding Parliamentary Career

Job Ndugai had a distinguished political career. He served as Speaker of the National Assembly from 2015 until his resignation in January 2022. Prior to that, he held the position of Deputy Speaker between November 2010 and November 2015. Known for his deep understanding of parliamentary procedures, Ndugai played a key role in legislative leadership over a decade.

In recent months, he had resurfaced in the political spotlight after winning the preliminary nomination to contest for MP of Kongwa, a constituency in Dodoma region, in upcoming elections.

⚖️ A Polarizing Figure

Despite his vast experience, Ndugai’s political journey was not without controversy. He faced criticism over remarks suggesting excessive control over Members of Parliament. He was also reproached for his public declaration that former President John Magufuli should be compelled to continue as president beyond the constitutionally mandated two terms, “whether he likes it or not.”

Nonetheless, Ndugai remained a prominent figure in Tanzanian politics and public service until his death.

🕯️ National Mourning and Funeral Plans

Details surrounding the cause of his death have not been disclosed. Speaker Tulia indicated that funeral arrangements and further information will be shared in due course. She extended heartfelt condolences to Ndugai’s family, the people of Kongwa, and all Tanzanians mourning the loss of a statesman.

“May God grant comfort and strength to the family, relatives, and the entire nation during this difficult time,” she concluded.
