Banyamulenge delegation praises Burundi’s role in DRC

Banyamulenge Burundi DRC discussions gained attention after a delegation of Banyamulenge representatives from Congo and the diaspora met Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye to express appreciation for Burundi’s role in peace efforts in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

During the meeting, the delegation spoke about Burundi’s support for the FARDC, the role of the Burundian army in protecting civilians without discrimination, and the solidarity shown to Congolese refugees, including Banyamulenge communities currently living in Burundi.

The visit also carried a strong political message. For months, accusations have circulated claiming that Banyamulenge were being targeted and killed by the Burundian army alongside FARDC forces.

However, this meeting presented a different picture, with Banyamulenge representatives themselves publicly recognizing protection, cooperation, and support from the Burundian army on the ground.

Their visit is seen as part of a broader mission focused on dialogue, peace, and social cohesion in the region. After Burundi, the delegation is expected to continue its mission in Uvira.

The development adds a new voice to ongoing debates about security, regional cooperation, and the reality facing communities affected by conflict in eastern DRC.
