Armed fighters from the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) have killed three civilians in a violent attack on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Kungubu village, northwest of Komanda, along the RN4 highway in Ituri Province, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
According to reports from Mecamediaafrica.com and local civil society sources, the attackers ambushed residents on their way to work before kidnapping several others and taking them into the forest.
Before the killings, the rebels also looted a pharmacy in Takumanza, located on the Komanda–Mambasa road, adding to a series of violent incidents that have shaken the area.
“The ADF rebels passed through Takumanza, looted a pharmacy, then attacked Kungubu. I personally saw three bodies. Since their presence, the security situation has worsened — people are fleeing towards Komanda and others toward the Ituri Bridge,”
said Pascal Kisezo, head of the Komanda Civil Society.
The Walese Vonkutu chiefdom, where the attack took place, has become one of the most dangerous areas in Ituri, with the ADF repeatedly targeting villages and displacing thousands of civilians. The United Nations MONUSCO Mission and local authorities have condemned the attack and called for stronger protection for residents.
This latest incursion underscores the ongoing security crisis in eastern Congo, where armed groups continue to threaten stability despite ongoing military operations by the FARDC and peace efforts led by regional partners.
