🇨🇩 DRC: Jean-Pierre Bemba Praises “Lobito Corridor” as a Pillar of Regional Economic Transformation
The Deputy Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Jean-Pierre Bemba, has emphasized the strategic importance of the Lobito Corridor Project during the Luanda Summit held on October 29, 2025, describing it as a key pillar for regional economic transformation.
The massive infrastructure initiative connects the Copperbelt region of Congo, Zambia, and Angola to the Atlantic Ocean, cutting transport costs and time by over 30%.
“The Lobito Corridor is more than a transport route — it’s a vehicle for cooperation, employment, and sustainable development for Central Africa,” Bemba declared in his address.
According to official reports, the project’s feasibility studies have been completed, and rehabilitation and construction work are underway through a public–private partnership (PPP) model.
The project is expected to create over 10,000 jobs, boost customs revenue, and enhance regional trade, particularly for landlocked nations.
For economic experts, the Lobito Corridor is poised to become a vital trade and logistics hub for exporting minerals, industrial goods, and agricultural products from the DRC to international markets — positioning Congo as a major driver of Central Africa’s economic growth.
