🇨🇩 DRC: Government Condemns New M23 Attacks, Calls Them a Violation of Peace Agreements
The Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has strongly condemned the latest attacks by the M23 rebel group, describing them as acts of aggression orchestrated by Rwanda against Congo’s sovereignty.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Defense, M23 continues to reinforce its military positions and launch new assaults across several areas in eastern Congo, targeting civilians and using them as human shields — a clear violation of the recently signed ceasefire agreements.
“These attacks breach peace accords and undermine all diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring stability,” the ministry declared.
The Kinshasa government reaffirmed that it will never tolerate violations of its territorial integrity and vowed to continue protecting national unity and the safety of its citizens through all available defense mechanisms.
“The Democratic Republic of Congo remains steadfast in defending its land. We call on citizens to remain calm and trust our army, the FARDC,” the statement added.
This development comes amid deteriorating security conditions in North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, where clashes between FARDC and M23 rebels have intensified despite peace efforts mediated by Qatar and the African Union.
