🇹🇿 Several Injured in Clashes with Police During Tanzania’s General Election

Several people have been injured during protests in parts of Tanzania as voting continues in a tense general election. Demonstrators set fires on roads, destroyed buses, and caused major damage to public infrastructure.

“We are tired… We want an independent electoral commission so Tanzanians can choose the leader they truly want,” one protester told the BBC.

More than 37 million registered voters are taking part in the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Sixteen minor political parties, with limited popularity, have been allowed to contest against President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is seeking a second term.

The only main opposition candidate, Luhaga Mpina of ACT-Wazalendo, was disqualified on legal grounds — a move that sparked public outrage and demonstrations across several cities.
