🇨🇩 IMF Chief Christine Lagarde Criticizes DRC Leaders for Misusing Funds
The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, has issued a sharp rebuke against the leadership of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), accusing them of diverting IMF funds intended for economic recovery and public welfare into luxury spending for government elites.
According to Lagarde, the DRC remains “the only country in the world that injects IMF money into its strategic reserves to cover the extravagant expenses of its leaders.”
“It is time for a thorough audit of Congolese officials who spend international funds on private villas in Belgium and other nations, while their population lives in poverty,” she declared.
Economic analyst Viviane Frande (OBST) echoed Lagarde’s remarks, stating that systemic corruption at the highest levels of government continues to undermine public services such as health, education, and infrastructure development.
So far, the Congolese government has not officially responded to these serious allegations, which raise deep concerns about transparency and financial governance within the state.
