Former Tanzanian Ambassador Humphrey Polepole Abducted at His Home in Dar es Salaam
Former Tanzanian ambassador to Cuba and outspoken government critic Humphrey Polepole has reportedly been abducted by unidentified individuals late on Sunday night, October 5, 2025, at his residence in Dar es Salaam, according to his family.
His younger brother, Godfrey Polepole, confirmed the incident to BBC News Africa, saying the family found broken doors, cut power lines, and large traces of blood inside the house.
“The reports are true. We arrived at his home and found the doors broken, electric wires cut, and a lot of blood on the floor. We have reported the case to Mbweni Police Station,” said Godfrey Polepole.
Video clips circulating on social media show what appears to be the former ambassador’s residence, with visible blood stains and damaged property.
Police spokespersons have acknowledged awareness of the reports and stated that they are “closely monitoring the situation.” Authorities added that they are still waiting for Mr. Polepole to appear and respond to previous summons regarding statements he made online after resigning from his diplomatic post.
Humphrey Polepole resigned as Tanzania’s ambassador to Cuba earlier this year and was officially stripped of his diplomatic status following his public disagreements with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration.
In previous statements shared via X (Twitter) and Facebook, he accused the government of failing to uphold justice, the rule of law, and constitutional principles, saying he could not remain “part of a system that disregards basic human rights.”
