The United Kingdom has expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the UK Mission to the United Nations delivered a strong message condemning the escalation of violence in the region, which has been plagued by armed conflicts for decades.
According to the statement, repeated attacks by armed groups, particularly the M23 and the ADF, continue to target civilians with devastating consequences. Reports highlight massacres, mass displacement, and the systematic use of sexual violence as a weapon of war.
“The UK condemns the rise of violence in eastern DRC. The attacks by M23 and ADF against civilians, as well as sexual violence, are alarming,” the UK delegation stressed.
Beyond condemnation, London urged the international community to take concrete actions. The UK emphasized the urgent need to:
- Strengthen the protection of civilians.
- Ensure the withdrawal of Rwandan forces still present in Congolese territory.
- Guarantee the strict implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2773.
This call stands as a reminder of the international community’s responsibility to protect millions of Congolese living daily under the threat of war, waiting for peace and security.
