🇨🇩 Rutshuru: 16 People Killed in Brutal Massacre Allegedly Carried Out by M23 Rebels

In the Bwito chiefdom, Rutshuru territory, North Kivu province, at least 16 people were killed and several others injured following a brutal massacre that occurred on the night of Monday to Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in the village of Bishusha.

According to a local traditional leader, M23 rebels attacked the village and executed civilians shortly after members of the Wazalendo militia had withdrawn from the area — an act believed to be a retaliation.

Witnesses reported that the rebels mainly targeted young men, suspecting them of being part of the Wazalendo groups allied with the Congolese army (FARDC) in the ongoing conflict.

So far, security authorities have not issued any official statement, while tension remains high in the region, which has long been the epicenter of repeated clashes in eastern DRC between M23 rebels and government forces.

This incident adds to the growing number of civilian deaths resulting from continuous attacks in eastern Congo, where thousands of people have fled their homes due to persistent violence and insecurity.
